Technology and social media platforms are enabling new avenues to harass and abuse women online. In Parliament I urged action to fight this.
New technology and online platforms are increasingly being used to harm, abuse, and harass women. This has most recently been demonstrated through AI-generated sexual abuse images and deepfakes.
Too often, we find ourselves on the back foot, reacting to new technological abuses only after they have caused harm. By the time legislation addresses one form of technology-facilitated abuse, another has already emerged. Ofcom has failed to take this digital exploitation seriously, which is why I argued that the Government must create a dedicated online crime agency to effectively tackle illegal online content and activity.
